Lieutenant General Brent Scowcroft's wisdom, drawn from over six decades of public service, is a national treasure. LTG Scowcroft managed the foreign policy and national security process for three presidents, as the National Security Advisor to George H.W. Bush and Gerald Ford and as the Deputy National Security Advisor to Richard Nixon, and he continues to counsel presidents, regardless of party lines. Brent Scowcroft's has lived a legacy of a world transformed. He has skillfully advised world leaders across eras, through the detente, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the liberation of Kuwait.
On March 13th, 2013, friends, colleagues and supporters of the National Defense University gathered at the Ritz-Carlton in Washington, DC to honor LTG Scowcroft, the leader, strategist, advisor, teacher, mentor, and friend of so many of our nation’s leaders. Alongside our presenting sponsor, the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation, members and friends of the NDU Foundation offered remarks honoring LTG Scowcroft. Speakers included Dr. Ashton B. Carter, Deputy Secretary of Defense, Mr. Al Zimmerman, Chairman of the National Defense University Foundation, Peggy Johnson, Executive Vice President of Qulacomm Technologies, Ginni Rometty, Chairman, President and Chief Executive officer of IBM, and Dr Henry Kissinger, Former Secretary of State.
