The NDU Foundation team was saddened to learn of General Powell's passing, and will be forever grateful to him for his engagement with NDU and the NDU Foundation, including lending his name to the Colin L. Powell Chair for National Security, Leadership, Character and Ethics at NDU.

Colin Powell devoted his life to public service. He made history as the first Black man to be National Security Advisor, 12th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and the 65th Secretary of State.  Throughout his forty year career and after his retirement, Powell was devoted to the Chairman's University - NDU - and the importance of post graduate military education.  He was an alumni of NDU's National War College and integral to the creation of NDU Press' Joint Forces Quarterly (JFQ).

General Powell will be forever remembered for his integrity, leadership, and steadfast commitment to our democracy.  His legacy will remain in the hearts and minds of our nation.

Rest in peace, Sir.  Our condolences to General Powell's family, friends, and colleagues on this sad day.
