Hutchison has served as the US Permanent Representative to NATO since 2017, and the National Defense University Foundation (NDUF) had the distinguished privilege of hosting Ambassador Hutchison as a leader of the forum. The event was one of several regional forums to be held this year by the NDUF, in which leaders in foreign policy and national security can continue the discussion of the challenges faced by the United States in terms of national security in the twenty-first century.

Before her position as our Ambassador to NATO, Hutchison served as a Senator from Texas from 1993- 2013. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, she gained a deep understanding of NATO.  Her extensive background provided guests with invaluable insight into the workings of NATO and its mission to achieve transatlantic peace and prosperity. The National Defense University Foundation was grateful for her contribution to the discussion, as well as her role in supporting its mission to the National Defense University.

The Discussion and Dinner was one of a number of programs and regional forums scheduled to be held by the NDUF for the remainder of 2019, including a National Security Briefing with General James Clapper and a Forum and lunch event with Dr. Henry Kissinger. The Foundation continues to provide opportunity for discussion of our current national security obstacles and address the multilateral questions that are currently afoot. Its efforts are in support of the National Defense University, located on Fort McNair in Washington, DC.

NDU is the pre-eminent institution for strategic national security studies, and continues to cultivate future leaders and decision-makers and provide for them the proper environment to transition from operational to strategic responsibilities at the highest level of government
