D-Day 75th Anniversary
News Article

The 75th anniversary of D-day occurs on June 6, 2019. On June 6, 1945 156,000 American, British and Canadian forces landed on five beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the heavily fortified coast of France’s Normandy region. The invasion was one of the largest amphibious military assaults in history and required extensive planning. Prior to D-Day, the Allies conducted a large-scale deception campaign designed to mislead the Germans about the intended invasion target.

The National Defense University Foundation recognizes the importance of this invasion annually. The D-Day Remembrance Reception commemorates the anniversary of the Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944. Held at the National Defense University, the Remembrance Reception brings together various members of the University and individuals of the defense community commemorate the men and women who served during the D-Day Invasion.

The NDU Foundation was founded in 1982 to raise public awareness and financial support for the National Defense University.
